Patio Covers & Pergolas in San Diego
Shade structures, pergolas and backyard projects, designed around how you use your yard.
Your whole backyard, one contractor
A patio cover or pergola is framing and carpentry, and that's what our crew has done for more than 20 years. We build wood pergolas and attached or freestanding patio covers, and handle the permit when one is required.
Most backyard projects are more than one thing: a slab or pavers under the cover, a deck, a gate and fence, a fan and lights. The concrete, steel and electrical work is done by licensed specialty contractors under our contract and supervision, so you get one schedule, one written price and one point of contact.

Patio cover and pergola questions
Do I need a permit for a patio cover or pergola?
Often, yes, especially for covers attached to the house or above a certain size. We'll tell you at the estimate and handle the permit when it's required.
Wood or steel: which is better?
Wood feels warmer and costs less, but needs sealing every few years in the sun. Powder-coated steel costs more, stays straight, needs almost no upkeep and spans farther with thinner posts. We'll price both so you can compare.
Can you do the patio, the cover and the deck together?
Yes. We plan it as one project with one contract and schedule the concrete, carpentry, steel and electrical in the right order.
Can you add a fan or lights to the cover?
Yes. We plan the wiring before the roof goes on, and a licensed electrician does the work.
